Tokyo, Japan - Yamaha Motor Co., Tokyo, says net profit for its second quarter ended June 30, 2003, was 8.72 billion yen, 24.3% higher than its estimate and on course for a full-year record.
Yamaha says "strong" motorcycle sales of 140.8 billion yen influenced the results. Consolidated sales totaled 257.39 billion yen, up 3.3% from a year earlier; net profit for the three months was 37.76 yen per share. Pretax profit came to 16.52 billion yen; operating profit was 13.42 billion yen.
Yamaha says it expects a group net profit of 32 billion yen on sales of 1,030 billion yen for the year.
