Bad First New Bike!

I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying this new Kaw 650R. I saw it in the shop for the first time, fell in love with its unique look, including red frame and bullet-tip exhaust, and knew that I just had to have one. I just started riding on the road in June '06 on an '83 KZ550. Then last week I buy the 650R...what a difference!! There will always be a special place in my heart for the kz, but every time I get on the R, it makes it easy to forget. Now to the nitty-gritty. The front end is a bit harsh on the big bumps. Clutch lever and brake lever easily adjustable though caution you can "adjust" them without noticing and have trouble finding neutral at your next stop. Gas mileage is getting better by the fill-up. About 33mpg, then 40mpg, finally if todays calcs are correct, almost 55! Very impressive!! I went out with a Super Hawk (996cc) today and didn't feel too shy...she still runs smoothly at 90mph! Recommended break-in is kinda of a downer...500 mi at 4k and 500 at 6k. Though 6k will give you about 80 mph while 4k is just under 60mph. Exhaust is a bit quiet though I am sure that will be a selling point for some. Lights are good, shifting is smooth, ride is comfortable whether sitting up or laying on the tank to hide behind the fairing. The fairing will give you some protection and with a slight bend of the neck will direct everything towards the top of the head. Not bad at all. I think I may chop off the rear fender and integrate the turn signals as sometimes I think that whole assembly kinda looks like an afterthought. Thats about it I guess, I love it!

Upgrades/Accessories:  none (YET) doesn't really need any
