I must say I'm very impressed with the Vulcan 900. This is my first cruiser, but not my first bike. I've ridden sport bikes and dirt bikes in the past, and I still race on the race track.
But, this cruiser is incredible. Torque enough for me, but with handling close to a sport bike. I've scraped the floorboards a number of times (thanks for the sliders on the floorboards Kawi) and turn in on the bike is sharp and clean. The bike is well balanced and will keep itself steady when leaned over, a trait very important to sport bike riders as input on the bars once in the turn should be minimal.
First break-in was 513 miles. The oil was a little cloudy when I changed it. I also changed the filter. At the second break-in, 1000 miles, I opened her up to 80+ mph. I've only had her up to 100 mph, just to test the top end acceleration, and I'm pleasantly surprised. I changed the oil again at 1300 miles, but the oil looked as good as new, but again I changed the filter. This was probably unnecessary, but I feel better about it.
The only item I'll fault Kawi for is for some of the fake chrome items. The rear fender trim and left side engine cover are plastic as well as the top of the heads. The dealership I purchased it from has been exceptional.
Kawasaki hit the bullseye with this bike. Bigger is not always better in the cruiser market.
