I recieved a this bike for an early birthday gift from my fiance, and at first I was a little shocked. I kept sending the hint that I had wanted a honda shadow 750 for some time. Boy, am I glad I got this bike instead.
Let me first tell you about the feel of the bike. As you sit on it and put your hands on the handlebars, there is no reaching or effort needed to feel comfortable on the bike. The footpegs are forward mounted, and combined with a dry weight of 439 lbs., the bike feels easy to maneuver in traffic.
The 500 cc engine, I admit has got a lot of power for a sub 600 cc engine. I have no problems getting up to speed in a hurry, and no problems keeping up with my buddies (they all have 750's). The 6 speed tranny shifts smoothly and really helps with gas mileage. (My last fill up was around 170 miles. But I'm still in the break in period.)
The seat on it is very comfortable. I find that it starts to ache my butt after about 4-5 hours of continuous riding, but my back and shoulders don't ache at all.
The drawbacks to this bike are as follows: Aftermarket parts to dress the bike upare hard to find. Namely exhausts. Windshields, sissy bars, and saddlebags are easier to find. If you are an aftermarket junkie, then this is not the bike for you. Personally I think this bike looks great stock.
The final word- This bike is a great bike for the beginning rider, or the seasoned veteran who wants something fun to ride. I am glad my fiance found this bike for me instead of the Honda. And for less than honda, suzuki, and yamaha how can you go wrong? If you are looking to purchase a bike and don't want to go broke, then this is the bike for you.
