I purchased an 05' ZX-6R at the end of September in 2005. It is my first bike, although I have ridden dirt bikes and ATVs, I feel that this was an excellent beginner bike, despite some of the reviews that I've read. I really have no complaints at all with this bike although after a few hours of riding my wrist gets fatigued but that will happen on anything you ride. The handling is excellent especially around corners but it’s also like riding on rails even at speeds of 150+. The power of this bike is just amazing. When I bought it, I knew that a 600 is pretty powerful but I never thought that it would be like it is. Through the first few gears, it just throws you back and it’s just awesome. Anyway, I think that if you’re considering buying a bike that you look at this. It is the fastest 600 and a superb braking system, not to mention the great styling. Although there is no gas gauge, there is a gas light to let you know when you're low.
