Great ATV For Kids

I purchased this ATV for my son after I lost money and returned a Raptor 50 because nobody at Yamaha bothered to tell me it was not green-stickered. The Raptor 80 is green-stickered so your child can legally ride in state parks. This ATV is very tough, some may complain that it does not have independent suspension in the front, but that is the point... its suspension system is not the most advanced but it is tough (don't kid yourself, your little one will run into things and you want tough!). The suspension is too harsh, however. Yamaha figured parents would ride the ATV (they were right) and made the shocks capable of handling 250 Lb fathers... this is not too good for the kid, however, as it is too stiff. I have ridden my son's Raptor and I am impressed with the power. It takes me up steep hills and can reach 35 MPH. Don’t worry, you as a parent can limit the speed of this ATV with a simple turn of a screw near the throttle so that your child can go no faster than you feel he/she can handle. Needless to say, my son can easily keep up with me on my Sportsman 450. Working on this ATV is a pleasure, everything is within reach - changing oil, lubricating, etc. is easy. Another good thing is that there are many after market upgrades for this model. I wanted my son to be even safer, so I purchases tires and spacers to increase the width of the front and back (improved stability). Now that I know this is a good ATV, I don’t need to ride it anymore so I also changed the shocks, which are specifically made for a 70-90 lb child so the ride is no longer stiff for my son. I wanted other parents to know that this is a serious review, that is why I waited until 500 miles were ridden and a more accurate impression as to the durability, quality and performance of this ATV could be provided.

Upgrades/Accessories:  Wider tires
spacers front/back
Softer Shocks
