Top of the 4 strokes

This is my first 4 stroke. I was reluctant to move from a two stroke because of the added weight. I went to my neighborhood dealer to look at the Yamaha and the Kawasaki. I was leaning towards the High Output but my wife liked the seat on the STX better(got to please the boss). I am sure glad that I listened to her. I have only put 14 hours on the ski but it has been the best ski that I have ever owned. Last weekend I had the chance to really compare the High Output to the STX. Two High Output's were getting ready to race(I was heading the wrong way and my daughter was with me), a quick turn and I was with them, well for a minute until I left them behind. I don't have all the bells and whistles that come with the High Output(less things to go wrong) but stock speed is what matters. I think that Yahama figured it out because if you look at their web site (under High Output) they say "While other PWCs simply added more horsepower to compensate for their shortcomings, the FX High Output added performance where it really counts – everywhere". I have yet to find any shortcommings in the STX that I would trade for its power and speed(besides it is about $1200.00 cheaper, that's a trailer and a cover for me). It has plenty of power to tow whatever. I weigh 255 and it has no problem getting me up on a wakeboard or ski's. I also have a 6' tube(loaded with to two people) and it will pull it as fast as you want to go. The only problem that I have with the Kawasaki is that at low speeds(less than 10mph) it is really unstable. I have had two other riders with me(I have a 100yd no wake zone) and I have gotten wet more than once. Above 10mph it is solid as a rock. Full throttle turns are no problem as a matter of fact it turns so quickly that it is tough to keep it under you. Both ski's are good but I would choose the STX.

Upgrades/Accessories:  Tried to order a Kawasaki cover but they are back-orderded and it looks like a two month wait. There are no aftermarket covers that I could find either.
