I purchased my Vino 125 in the beginning of June and it has been fantastic. The ride is fairly smooth, acceleration is wonderful and handling is great. Knowing what I know now, I still wouldn't have paid the extra grand for a Vespa.
Perhaps the only real issue is the fact I need an XXXL helmet to fit my head and the underseat storage literally strains to hold it in. I had to go with a full motorcycle helmet due to the fact the dealer didn't have a scooter helmet in my size, which might have been able to fit in a less precarious manner.
Instead of constant jabs for owning a scooter, I've received nothing but praise. Almost everytime I park it somewhere, I get asked about it - people simply fall in love with it when they see it. The reaction I get when I tell them the top speed and gas mileage is one of jaws hitting the pavement.
The only things I would change for the next model year are simple tweaks to the design:
- Underseat storage...an extra 4 inches in depth and 4 inches in diameter could easily allow for larger helmet sizes.
- Slightly tweaked suspension. I've ridden the newest Vespas and the Vino 125, and this is the only area where the Vino loses out. The Vespa is much better at absorbing rough pavement than the Vino.
- Plastic that is less crack-prone in wipeouts. I've seen many pictures of Vinos with small holes in the body due to a single, small wipeout.
- A lockable rear storage case. Put it where the "WARNING: NEVER SIT HERE!" sticker is. Most other scooters have provisions for this and it would be an easy item to add. The current Wire Basket option is just not good enough.
