I chose this Ninja 250 as my first bike. I have put 700 miles on it and have enjoyed everyone of them. I had never even been on a street bike before i bought the 250. The break in period is perfect for first timers because it allows the rider to get used to going 35 mph and then after 500 miles the rider gets to learn how to ride at 50 mph. I also used this bike to get my license. Even though i am ready to move up to the 636 I would highly recommend this bike to all beginners.
