Yamaha To Defend Drag Race Championship

Patrick Racing and Star Motorcycles return to defend Hot Rod Cruiser Drag Race Championship.
February 3, 2006

USA - Cypress, Calif., January 30, 2026 — The Patrick Racing Star Motorcycles team will return in 2006 to defend their fourth consecutive AMA Prostar series championship, racing the new Star Motorcycles Roadstar Warrior made by Yamaha. The bike is based on a stock motorcycle that features radial-mounted brakes, aluminum chassis and powerful, fuel-injected air-cooled, push-rod, 1670cc V-twin engine. The team’s Nigel Patrick-prepared Warrior’s high performance parts and accessories are available to all cruiser riders through Star Motorcycles' extensive catalogue, Patrick Racing, and other accessory shops.

For the fourth year in a row, Patrick Racing / Star Motorcycles owns the AMA Prostar Motorcycle Drag Racing Hot Rod Cruiser championship, taking the top two steps on the podium by winning every event with its pair of Star Motorcycles' Roadstar Warriors.

Reigning champion Rick McWaters won seven of the eight events and his class record still stands at 9.161 seconds at 145.30 mph, set in 2004 at Gainesville, Florida. As a testament to the power potential of the Warrior, McWaters’ record is less than a tenth of a second behind the all-time record for a 1000cc Supersport bike. Jeremy English, McWaters’ teammate, won the remaining event in 2005 proving himself by being the only other rider to compete against McWaters in a final during the entire year.

Yamaha Racing Division Manager Keith McCarty said, “I’m really excited about our fifth season with Patrick Racing and AMA Pro Star and I’m looking forward to another year. The Warrior and Patrick Racing have dominated the Hot Rod Cruiser class with four class championships in a row. I think it just shows that when you have a great team, great riders, and a great motorcycle like the Roadstar Warrior, great things happen.”
