This year marked the 30th for a Supercross in the Pontiac Silverdome. Kevin Windham (Honda) got the holeshot and the end of the order at the end of the first lap was: Windham, Voss, Carmichael, Reed and Stewart. Reed and Carmichael battled for second and third for several laps, then on lap 12 Reed passed Carmichael. Reed and Windham swapped the lead on lap 15 and Reed made it stick on Lap 16. Carmichael got by Windham on Lap 17, and Reed went on to give the all new aluminium-framed YZ250 its fourth Supercross of the year. “That was a great race tonight,” said Chad. “I was a little tight at the start and started to get into the groove as the race progressed. This was seriously one of the best races of my career and I am happy to leave with a big win.”
South-African Grant Langston won his first-ever 125cc eastern regional AMA Supercross Series championship. Runner-up Josh Hansen won tonight’s 125cc main event, earning his second victory of the season. In season points standings, Langston and Hansen tied with 143 points, but the championship goes to Langston based off his three overall wins to Hansen’s two. Suzuki’s Davi Millsaps finished second and Honda’s Joaquim Rodrigues third. YZ250F mounted Kelly Smith rode to sixth and got fifth in final standings.
