USA - At the conclusion of the 2002 - 2003 Arenacross season, Clear Channel
Entertainment - Motor Sports has announced a record amount of money paid out
to riders participating in the National and Regional Arenacross Series.
Riders competed for over $2.6 million throughout the season in contingency
money, performance based bonuses and the series end points fund, making
arenacross the largest indoor motor sports series in the world.
For the 2002 - 2003 season, the amount of money posted from all contingency
sponsors doubled last year's total. This year a total of $2.2 million was
posted for the National and Regional Series from a record number of
sponsors, paying out over $431,885 to amateur and professional riders.
Record high payouts were made by two of the largest motorcycle
manufacturers. Kawasaki paid out a total of $106,000, while Suzuki paid out
an astonishing $124,180 to both professional and amateur riders on the
season.
"This is the highest amount of contingency money posted and paid out in
arenacross history," said Mike Kidd, founder and vice president of
arenacross for Clear Channel Entertainment - Motor Sports. "Within the
industry, this program is getting a lot of attention for being a great way
to reach out to riders from coast to coast."
Included in the 2002 - 2003 contingency program were five major motorcycle
manufactures paying out contingency prizes: Kawasaki, Yamaha, Honda,
Suzuki, and Husqvarna. Fourteen other motorcycle industry contingency
sponsors posted money to the program as well: Barnett Dirt Digger Clutch,
Boyeson Racing Products, Maxxis Tires, Niks Pro-X Pistons/ LA Sleeve,
Pirelli Tires, Shoei Helmets, Scott Goggles, Sidi Boots, Spy Goggles, Thor,
and Wiseco Pistons.
In addition to contingency payouts, riders competed for purse money and
performance based bonuses each weekend as well as an astounding $115,000
series end points fund for the National and Regional Series'.
At each round, riders that participated in the National Series competed for
a weekend purse of $25,000 that was distributed amongst to the top 15 riders
in each of the four main events. The regional series paid out a $10,000
weekend purse each weekend, also paying out to the top 15 riders in the
125cc and 250cc main events.
Riders also had the opportunity to pick up some extra money each weekend in
the audience-interacted intermission: the Dash-for-Cash and the Extreme Jump
Contest. After the completion of 42 total events this season, over $30,000
was paid out to participants of these contests.
As Arenacross made its way across the country, interest in the sport has
increased greatly. In addition to the record high amount posted for this
season's events, arenacross will continue to add more events, more sponsors,
and more money to benefit the riders during the 2003 - 2004 season and
beyond.
